Pallet Garden Path

Anyone that is addicted to Pinterest has come across pins of people using pallets as garden paths. I couldn’t help myself and had to try it.  I am fortunate to live by a business that has a constant pile of pallets for anyone to take, so I thought I would give it a shot.  I have done pallet projects before, they aren’t the easiest thing to get apart, but for free, worth it.

My favorite garden path project was the one that they drilled holes in the sides, for landscape stakes, which holds the boards in place.  I overbought long garden stakes a few years back, so I knew I was all set with everything I needed.  I had intended to stain the boards, that is what most people on Pinterest did, but I fell in love with the natural wood, and when it ages, I will love it more.

The day I finished my garden path, I received an early birthday gift from someone very special to me.  The garden stone was inscribed with “Always leave a path in the garden for the angels to walk”.  The perfect gift, given at the perfect time.

I wanted to light the path, so I added a few solar lights, you can never have too many garden lights!!  Or solar chandeliers ♥.  I did cut back on the lighting in the front of the house, my better half commented that it looked like an airport runway 🙂

Easy instructions:

Supplies needed:

  • Hammer
  • Chisel
  • Chop Saw
  • Drill w/ drill bit the size of landscape stakes
  • rubber mallet

Instructions:

  1. Dismantle the pallets, I used a chisel and a hammer
  2. Remove nails from the pallet boards
  3. Measure boards to the size you would like (I measured 16″)
  4. Drill a hole about an inch from each side
  5. Lay out your boards, creating the path you want.  This was the most time consuming part to me, I couldn’t make up my mind what I wanted.
  6. Tap in the landscape stakes gently, with your rubber mallet.

That is it, easy!!!
