Paper Bag Valentine Snowflakes
Happy Valentine’s Day
I am always looking for a cheap and fun way to decorate for holidays. This is such a simple yet impressive craft using lunch bags. I first saw this done at a friends house and knew I had to make them, so I made a few with cheap brown lunch bags. I loved the way they came out and for Valentines Day, I decided to make some in pinks and white. Paper lunch bags are easy to find, cheap, and sturdy enough to hold their shape, you can also make dozens of these and remake easily if you mess up. They are kid friendly, with adult supervision and VERY addictive, try making just 2 🙂
What you need:
- Paper Lunch Bags (8 for each snowflake)
- Hot Glue (if doing with a child, quick drying glue or glue stick)
- Scissors
- Fishing Line Or Ribbon (I used dental floss and when I was finished, found the fishing line)
- Pattern (I love this site for patterns)
Organize and Flatten:
Count out 8 bags and arrange them in the same direction with flap side up. Heat up your glue gun and cut the desired length of ribbon for hanging.
Glue Together:
Using your hot glue gun or quick dry glue, and apply a strip of glue down the middle of the bag, from the top to the bottom of the bag and then a line across the bottom making an upside down T shape. Keep gluing until you count 4 and start with a second stack, again gluing until you count 4. The next step will be a lot easier with bags glued in stacks of 4. Cutting through 8 bags is very difficult.
Draw Your Design:
With your scissors, start cutting your design from the 4 pressed down bags, then repeat with your next stack of 4 bags. Use your first cut design as a template to trace out the second stack of bags. and glue those together.
Unfold and Glue:
Unfold your creation and make sure that it doesn’t need a little trimming. Fold back up and make your last glue T, attaching your ribbon at the top, in glue and unfold again and glue the last 2 panels together. If using hot glue, be very careful with the last 2 panels, it is HOT.
That is it!! Simple, fun and kid friendly, and I can guarantee you that this craft is addictive. I love the way they look hanging from my ceiling, in the windows, on the back enclosed porch………everywhere!!
