Doily Trees

I love Christmas, especially decorating.  Years ago I made a paper village for the mantle of my fireplace, using my Cameo Silhouette and I like to add to it every year.  I saw a craft video where they made trees out of doilies and I fell in love with them, and knew I had to make some for my village  On this show, they used items that you can easily find at any craft store, but  that can be costly, so I made a trip to my local Dollar Tree and found almost everything I needed there!!

These adorable doily trees will look amazing in any house, they look great on a mantel, bookshelf, or as a centerpiece at the dinner table!

What you will need:

  • Multipack Round Paper Doilies in Assorted Sizes, 32-ct. Pack (Dollar Tree)
  • Wooden Dowels, 12 pack (Dollar Tree)
  • White Foam Disks, 2 pack (Dollar Tree)
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Hot Glue Gun Sticks

Most crafter’s own a glue gun and scissors and my final cost for 12 trees is $3.00.  I have plenty of doilies left for other projects ♥

Let’s get started:

  1. Gather all of your supplies.
  2. Cut a slit from the edge to the center of each doily and cut out a small section of the center.
  3. For smaller trees or rows, cut the doily in half.
  4. Wrap the doily around itself to form a cone shape, securing the ends with glue, leaving the top open to slide down the dowel.
  5. Place a doily at the bottom of the skewer in the center, securing with a dot of hot glue.
  6. Place your next doily slightly above the previous doily and secure with hot glue.
  7. If you are making a 2 doily tree, place your second doily on the top of the dowel.
  8. This is where you can be creative, your trees can be 2, 3 or even 4 doilies high.  I used 2 different sizes of doilies for my village.
  9. Once the layers of doilies have dried, cut bases for your trees from the  foam disks.
  10. Insert the bottom of the skewer in the center of the foam block.
  11. For fun,  I made a tree out of one of my wooden cooking skewers, and it worked just fine.
  12. Done 🙂  Aren’t they cute!!
